Mary Jane was sponsored in honor of Mary Jane Imly Patterson, an early pioneer in the Republic Area. The horse sports a blanket representing the families Scottish plaid. She was Painted by Bette Largent.
During the period when this carousel was created, Charles Dare was contracted to supply horses for Armitage Herschell. This horse is one of two horses on this carousel believed to have been created by Charles Dare under this arrangement.
